DESCRIPTION

Aged 85, the late 'amir Da'na "Abu Salam" is one of the pillars of steadfastness in the heart of the Holy City of Jerusalem, and one of the oldest newspaper vendors. Da'na was; for decades, known for selling newspapers, books and magazines in a dedicated "kiosk" in front of Damascus Gate in Jerusalem until he became one of the landmarks of the place. Da'na began his work as a "newspaper salesman" when he was 6 years old, after the arrest of his father and three brothers by the British Occupation during the Palestine Great Rebellion 1936-39. Lacking a family breadwinner, Da'na and one of his brothers had to look for work in the streets of Jerusalem.
