BIOGRAPHY

Adel Zawati is a Palestinian politician who was born in the village of Zawata, located in Nablus district, in 1920. He received his education in the schools of Nablus and Jerusalem and obtained a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree with honors in Arabic literature from the American University in Beirut in 1945. During the British Mandate, he was appointed the provincial governor of Lod, then of Ramleh and then of Yafa, and also worked as secretary to the British High Commissioner in Jerusalem. He was captured by Zionist gangs during the events of the Arab-Israeli War in 1948 and then released in a prisoner exchange.

DESCRIPTION

The Adel Zawati Collection consists of many paper clippings, on which he recorded his memoirs and notes on various topics and documented the names of the depopulated Palestinian villages as well as events dating back to the British military rule over Palestine. The collection includes items on the history of the Babylonians and the Assyrians and a description of historical and archaeological sites as well as of historical events in Palestine, such as the al-Buraq Revolt in 1929, the formation of the Farmers' Party in the Nablus District and the White Book.
