The Movement of Democratic Women in Israel is a Jewish-Arab women's organization that was established in 1948. The Movement is mainly active in Arab villages and cities in the north and the centre, and through its activities, it focuses on working with Palestinian women, who hold Israeli citizenship. The Movement's various activities include: promoting women's equality, children's rights, and activities calling for peace and democracy. The Movement also organizes workshops and seminars for young Palestinian women with the aim of empowering them and providing them with the necessary knowledge to realize their rights. The Movement is practically a coalition that includes under its umbrella two organizations: the "Women's Renaissance" that was established in 1948 as an Arab women's organization, and the "Progressive Women’s Democratic Movement". Both of which, due to the convergence of positions and goals, they decided to unite in order to expand their fields of activity.
