The General Union of Palestinian Women (GUPW) was established following the first Palestinian National Congress, convened in Jerusalem, in 1965, under the slogan “Towards Unifying the Efforts of Palestinian Women’s Committees to Liberate the Usurped Homeland” for the purpose of organizing and mobilizing the potential of Palestinian women, wherever they are, in the service of the Cause of Palestine, and struggling to achieve gender equality in all rights. The Preparatory Committee consisted of Zulaikha al-Shihabi, Samira abu Ghazaleh, Souad al-Kilani, Fayza Abd al Majeed, Salma al-Khadra al-Jayyousi, Wadi’a Khartabil, Rashida al-Masri, and Hajja Andalib al-Amad.
show more show lessThe General Union of Palestinian Women (GUPW) Collection includes photographs and documents of GUPW activities and events, which document the meetings and conferences GUPW has held as well as the statements, correspondence, telegrams and invitations it has issued. It also includes photographs of the GUPW members, showing their travels and visits. In addition, it encompasses audio recordings, including a recording of the anthem of the Palestinian Revolution "Fida'i (Freedom Fighter) and another of a press conference that was held as part of the Arab Feminist Conference, convened in Ramallah in 2012.
