Khaled Nazzal was born in the town of Qabatiya in 1948,he received his primary and preparatory education there, before enrolling at the Palestine Technical University "Kadoorie" in Tulkarm. He joined the Palestinian revolution in Jordan and was one of the founding leaders of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine. He served as Secretary of its Central Committee, held the rank of Colonel in the Palestinian revolutionary forces, and led the Internal Support Forces. Nazzal participated in the 1982 Lebanon War and in the battles to defend Palestinian refugee camps. He came from a family of fighters—his father, Ahmad Nazzal, was among the revolutionaries who fought alongside Sheikh Izz Ad-Din Al-Qassam. He married Palestinian activist Rima Kattaneh Nazzal. He was assassinated by the Israeli intelligence agency "Mossad" in Athens on 9 June 1986.
