Rajih al-Salfeety is a popular Palestinian poet, famous for his recitation of political Zajal poems and for his activity in the Palestinian Communist Party. He was persecuted in the 1950s, and moved between Syria and the Czech Republic between 1958 and 1967, before making his way back to Palestine. There in Palestine, al-Salfeety became active at the local level. He ran as a candidate in the 1976 elections, became a member of the Salfit Municipal Council and was arrested several times in his life, before he died in 1990.
show more show lessThe Rajih al-Salfeety Collection includes many poems written in notebooks, some of which were handwritten by al-Salfeety and others by his daughter, Duha, noting that he composed many poems and slogans describing the First Intifada 1987. The collection also includes a variety of photographs related to al-Salfeety’s activity as a poet and activist in the communist movement in Palestine and abroad, in addition to the certificates of honour he was awarded and the speeches he delivered at memorial festivals.
