"'Western view of Arab nationalism" is Misunderstood'", a Letter by Ilyas Kusa to the Editor of the Jerusalem Post, December 1970

Addressed by Ilyas Kusa to the Editor of the Jerusalem Post on 31 December, this formal letter responds to an article published in the same month in the Post titled, "Western view of Arab nationalism." In his letter, Kusa addressed the different Arabic meanings of the English word "nationalism", he explains "qawmiya" means “nationalism” and refers to a movement that aims to free all Arab countries, whereas "wataniya" means “patriotism” and refers to the bond with and loyalty for one's homeland.
