"Shafrir", ʿĀdel az-Zawaty, a Paper Clipping

Handwritten in Arabic, this paper clipping documents the name of "Shafrir", a colony established in 1949 on the depopulated village of al-Safiriyya, a village seven kilometres southeast of Jaffa and by the Jaffa-Lod Road and one kilometre from the Jaffa-Jerusalem Road. Its name comes from the word "Saffri" in Syriac (which translates into morning or sunrise). The land of the village is flat and is set at thirty metres above sea level and its soil is red, and it consumes irrigation water from wells.
