Published in March 1982, this is the thirty-seventh issue of Al-Shiraa (The Sail) magazine. Siham al-ʿasaly is the editor-in-chief and Adnan az-Zubaydy is in charge of the illustrations and fonts. Printed in the Arab Orient Press in al-Quds (Jerusalem), the magazine explores a variety of issues under the following sections, Palestinian affairs, Arab affairs, International affairs, local features, literature, and Israeli affairs. The 80-page issue tackles these subjects through the following: - The Palestinian affairs section discusses the Saudi and Egyptian role in reaching a settlement in the Middle East and urging the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) to agree with the terms of this settlement. Some of the articles include “Egypt and Saudi Arabia Together for Killing the Palestinian Cause,” “The French Position Becomes More Biased” in addition to other local news and letters from Gaza and Bethlehem. - The Arab affairs section includes the following articles, “The Arab World is for American Military Bases” by ʿĀdel Samara on the reasons that led to Arab defeat, the weakening of Arab unity, and the dependency of Arab ruling regimes. “The Overt Collaboration of the Lebanese Authority” which is an article on the collaboration of Ilyas Sarkis from the Phalange party against Palestinian presence in Lebanon and the Lebanese National Movement. The article “A Letter from a Sudanese Expatriate” addresses the suppressive methods of Jaʿfar an-Numairy. “Al-Qadhdhafy Bolsters Relations with Algeria and Tunisia” is an article on al-Qadhdhafy’s visit to Tunisia to resist the imperial schemes in the region and in support of the Steadfastness Front and Polisario Front in the Western Sahara. - The international affairs section includes the article “The Afghan Alliance and International Support” on the Soviet Union’s support of the revolution in Afghanistan and the article “Did International Organisations Achieve Their Mission?” on the role of the League of Nations. - The local features section includes a story entitled “The Quarries of Dheisha Stand Trial” on a report prepared by a Belgium expert on the harmful impact of stone quarries in the areas of Dheisha and Artas. It also includes a story on the reality of Palestinian women living in the refugee camps of Deir 'Ammar, Jalazone, and Dheisha written by Suha al-Barghuthy. There is also an interview with the heads of sports clubs in Gaza’s refugee camps to commemorate the 31st founding anniversary of the Sports Movement in the refugee camps of the Gaza Strip. - The literature section includes a discussion of Al-Shiraa’s symposium on Palestinian literature and its crises, a critical analysis of Qustandy ash-Shaumaly, and some poetry. - The Israeli affairs section includes the articles “Is There a Possibility for a Begin-Fahd Meeting” and “Who Planted the False News” about a leaked document that includes statements by the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) on the removal of all Jews from Palestine and the role of Iṣam as-Saratawy in reaching a settlement.
