Taken in 2000, this colour photograph captures the honorary ceremony held for the theatre staff of the heatrical performance "Sayyedat al-Bayt [Lady of the House]" produced by al-Midan Theatre. Written by Spanish poet García Lorca and directed by Munir Bakry, the play, originally entitled "The House of Bernarda Alba", tells the story of domineering matriarch Bernarda Alba who upon the death of her second husband imposes an eight-year mourning period on her household in accordance with her family tradition. Bernarda has five daughters, aged between 20 and 39, whom she has controlled inexorably and prohibited from any form of relationship.
