"The Jerusalem Electricity Company Crisis", a Letter from Bassam ash-Shakʿa to the Committee for the Restoration of the Jerusalem District Electricity Company, 30 June 1987
Addressed on 30 June 1987 by Bassam ash-Shakʿa to the Committee for the Restoration of the Jerusalem District Electricity Company and its members and employees, this 3-page letter discusses the Company's distress and potential filtering as part of the Israeli occupation’s plan to control the power in Palestine and Judaize its lands and people. In his letter, Ash-Shakʿa suggests an action plan for the Jerusalem Electricity Company to emerge from its crisis as follows: - Activating company generators and executing an action plan which aims to restore the company’s Arabic roots and develop a national moral and material Arabic support. - Appointing a company domestic committee as well as national associations and individuals to keep up with the crisis. - Condemning the authorization of the Israeli occupation over company privileges and resorting to the late Anwar Nasibe for advice on the matter. - Focusing the labour union’s role in pressuring company administration to execute domestic decisions.
