Attali'ah Newspaper, Issue 438, July 24 1986

The four hundred and thirty-eighth issue of Attali'ah Newspaper which was published on July 24, 1986. Bashir al-Barghuthy is the issueʾs editor-in-chief, and it was printed in Salah ad-Din Press in al-Quds (Jerusalem). The 12-page issue covers the following: 1. An article by Ibrahim Dakkak entitled “We Need to Stop Shuffling the Cards”. 2. The solidarity campaign with Al-Mithaq newspaper and Al-Ahed magazine continues for the third week in a row. 3. The Union of Palestinian Working Women Committees and the Voluntary Work Committee open summer camps for young boys to fight against the policy of ignorance over education. 4. From the chronicles of the West Bank and Gaza Strip (Closing off the Eastern Highway in Gaza, uprooting trees in Nabi Ilyas near Qalqilya, land levelling in Rafah, tax raids in al-Ubeidiya and Al-Eizariya, the results of the General Education Examination, Israeli attempts to displace the Abu Dahuk family, stones thrown at Israeli military vehicles, a group of settlers in Jabel Mukaber call for banning a nearby mosque from sounding the Adhan, the persecution of female vegetable sellers in al-Quds). 5. The Palestine Relief Organisation in the United States invites Bassam Shakʾa to attend its conference. 6. Residents from the Occupied Golan Heights face long prison sentences. 7. The continued closure of al-Qasaba neighbourhood in Hebron turns it into a prison. 8. An article entitled “A Popular Referendum in Gaza… Condemnation of the Jordanian Measures against the Offices of the PLO and Denunciation of al-Shawwaʾs Defeatist Statements”. 9. Taxi drivers in al-Quds (Jerusalem) go on a strike to protest the terrorist attacks against them. 10. Palestinian workers in Israel suffer exploitation and brutal attacks. 11. Birzeit Universityʾs Board of Trustees plans to downsize the number of employees and to cut salaries.  12. The Union of Workers in the Education Sector devises a plan to protect the rights of employees.
