A Press Release Issued by West Bank and Gaza Mayors, 27 November 1979
Printed in Arabic, this document shows a press release issued by West Bank and Gaza Mayors on 27 November 1979 about their meeting in which they discussed the case of their detained colleague Nablus Mayor Bassam Shak'a in light of what was rumoured about his case being linked to the case of the Elon Moreh colony built on the village of Rujeib in Nablus. The outcomes of the meeting are: - Adherence to the collective resignation decision until the release of Shak'a. - The categorical denial regarding the release of Shak'a in exchange for postponing the evacuation of the Elon Moreh colony. - Emphasizing their right to their land and homeland, and their rejection of the establishment of colonies. - Attempts to turn mayors against one another will be deemed to fail and backfire. - Demanding the release of their colleague Nablus Mayor Bassam Shak'a.
