The Proceedings of the 19th Session of a Court Martial on the Coup Attempt Against the King of Jordan, 13 August 1957

Printed in Arabic, this archival item documents the proceedings of the 19th session of the Court Martial on the coup attempt against the King of Jordan which was held on Sunday, 13 August 1957 at the King Abdullah II Air Base, in the presence of Colonel “Abed el-Karim al-Barghouti” and Colonel “Ahmad Baslan” along with “Taher Ashihabi”, “Salah Abu Zaid” and “Adnan Biyoun”, together, they did the secretary related work.  The Defense Committee included the following attorneys; Anwar Nusseibeh, Fuad Abd el-Hadi, Hasan Habib Hawwa and Azziz Shihadeh; whereas the session was inaugurated by the Chief Colonel Major “Aukash Azzain” who requested from the Representative of the Prosecution General "Muhammad Assadi" to present the witness; Corporal “Mahmmoud Ahmad Issa” as the witness, asking him about his name, number, age and to what extent does he know the suspects? And If there is any biological relationship between the two in addition to where he was during the night he was called? following the attempted coup between 13-14 April 1957; where he was asked for summons because he served as the corporal responsible for the preparations of the military equipment to question him on the nature and amount of the weapons used, he also mentioned that after the dawn he came back from the leadership guards to the Directorate of the Intelligence after being asked by Corporal “Jamal al-Hindawi” to help damage some papers; where they left to the Office of the Deputy “Akram Azzatawi” along with Soldier “Saleh Daifoallah”, Azzatawi and Deputy “Mousa Hammad” started shredding papers and documents which were later burned by Hindawi.  Thereafter, Assadi called for Soldier “Yousif Elyan Atiyeh” as a witness based on the request of the chief of the committee, he was asked to deliver his profession, number and other contact information to seek details on the night of the attempted coup because they were told to get ready for a manoeuvre, then, he continued speaking about the Muslim Brotherhood and their role during these incidents and some of the wounded and deceased from the 3rd and 5th brigade, therefore, “Sudqi al-Kayed” was invited to testify after he addressed himself following the questions he received in regard to his relationship with the suspects appearing in court saying he knows them all except for “Qasim al-Naser” and Karim Aqleh” with this, he proceeded his testimony until Aukash Azzain closed the session which is to resume on the evening of the same day at 5:00 pm.
