Proceedings of 4th Session of a Court Martial on the Coup Attempt Against the King of Jordan, 31 July 1957

Printed in Arabic, this archival item documents the proceedings of the 9th session of the Court Martial on the coup attempt against the King of Jordan which was held on Wednesday, 31 July 1957 at the King Abdullah II Air Base, in the presence of Colonel “Abed el-Karim al-Barghouti” and Colonel “Ahmad Baslan” along with “Taher Ashihabi”, and “Adnan Biyoun”, together, they did the secretary related work.  The Defense Committee included the following attorneys; Anwar Nusseibeh, Fuad Abd el-Hadi, Hasan Habib Hawwa and Azziz Shihadeh; where the session was inaugurated by the Chief Colonel Major “Aukash Azzain” who requested from the representative of the Prosecution General to present the witness, therefore, the Committee Member and the Representative of the Prosecution General; Colonel Muhammad Assadi invited the witness; the First Lieutenant “Muhammad Salim Abu Ridn” where he was asked about his name, number, and age in addition to what extent does he know the suspects; because if yes; since when? And if there is any relationship between them? confirming he knows most of them including “Ali Abu Nowwar”, “Ali al-Hayyari”, “Natheer Ahmad Rasheed”, and “Ihsan al-Halwwani” however, he denies any relationship with them nor being enemies, moreover, he continued answering a collection of questions on the history of “Natheer Rasheed” who is the Leader of the Brigade and how much he has been in service along with those who followed him.  Later, he was asked about “Ghassab Assoud” who accompanied him, but in the West Bank, saying “Assoud” was the Colonel of Administration and Lieutenant at the Royal Armored Forces who had met with him to discuss the conspiracy that was planned against the king; where the witness came on 11 October as per asked by “Nayif al-Hadeed” then, they spoke of what they have heard from the window of “Turki el-Hindawi’s house during a meeting that was held during March 1957; where it came to his ears a sentence saying “unity with Syria and joining us” confirming that the attendees were “Ali Abu Nowwar”, “Ali al-Hayyari”, “Ahmad Zarour”, “Mahmmoud al-Mayytah”, “Shaher Yousif”, “Jafar Ashami”, “Shawkat Sabboul”, “Dafi al-Jammʿani” and “Matheer Rasheed”.
