Proceedings of 3rd Session of a Court Martial on the Coup Attempt Against the King of Jordan
Printed in Arabic, this archival item documents the proceedings of the 3rd session of the Court Martial on the coup attempt against the King of Jordan in the presence of Colonel “Abed el-Karim al-Barghouti” and Colonel “Ahmad Baslan” along with “Taher Ashihabi”, “Salah Abu Zaid” and “Adnan Biyoun”, together, they did the secretary related work. The Defense Committee included the following attorneys; Anwar Nusseibeh, Fuad Abd el-Hadi, Hasan Habib Hawwa and Azziz Shihadeh; where the session was inaugurated by the Chief Colonel Major “Aukash Azzain” followed by Nusseibeh who delivered the request of the witnesses, saying that after the questioning period is over, their families can visit them and their solo confinement isn’t valid. Afterwards, “Azzain” requested the Representative of the General Prosecution “Muhammad Assadi” to present the witness; the Second lieutenant “Alaweh Jarad” where he was asked about his name, religion, and work in addition to the information he knows about the suspects; confirming that he is familiar to “Ali Abu Nowwar”, “Ali al-Hayyari”, “Qasem Al-Naser” and Natheer Rasheed” where he used to stay in the military camp along with his brigade in the West Bank, moreover, he mentioned the meetings which were held either at the brigade’s leader or if the brigade’s leader would attend the meetings himself in other places; as the presence consisted of the Brigade’s leader “Natheer Ahmad Rasheed”, “Jafar Ashami”, the Tanks Brigade Commander “Turki el-Hindawi” and “Dafi al- Jammʿani” saying that even once they returned back from the West Bank to al-Zarqa the meetings were still in action and all matters related to the conspiracy were becoming clearer after the maneuver of “Hashim” where it took place on 7 April 1957; as the brigade was split into four including two companies for Jerusalem and another two were for Amman for 12 hours. The supporting companies were to count the incoming and leaving cars from Amman to Jerusalem and vice versa, however, the witness felt absurd towards this manoeuvre because it isn’t in need of heavily armoured company, it could have been executed by infantry and proceeded with his testimony until the court resumes the session on the very next day.
