A Statement by the Ismalic Committee in Jerusalem, 1 September 1981
Issued by the Supreme Islamic Committee in Jerusalem and signed by its director, Sheikh Saad al-Alami, on 1 September 1981, this document shows a statement to Arab and Islamic public opinion regarding al-Aqsa Mosque, where he mentioned the repeated harassment of the al-Haram ash-Sharif since the beginning of the occupation of the city of Jerusalem, which is represented by paving the way through demolishing houses, mosques and corners in the al-Mughrabi Quarter and other sabotage and excavations. Moreover, the statement included some of the violations executed by Israelis in support of their dream to remove al-Aqsa Mosque and build their temple on its ruins, including the rabbi of the Israeli Occupation Army, Shlomo Goren, on 15 August 1967 praying in al-Aqsa Mosque's yard and declaring his intentions to repeat his prayer after 9 days in the year between al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock, followed by the announcement of the Jerusalem Post that he intends to build a synagogue in mentioned space. In addition, the statement mentions the Israeli Occupation Army seizing the key of al-Mughrabi Gate on 31 August 1967, burning al-Aqsa Mosque on 21 August 1969 and many other incidents. Therefore, the Committee calls for a general strike among citizens on Thursday, 3 September 1981, and calls on all Muslims to pray at al-Aqsa Mosque on the Friday following the day of the strike.
