Issue 6123 of al-Shaab Newspaper, 12 June 1991
Al-Shaab newspaper in its issue dated 12 June 1991, is a daily political and illustrated newspaper issued in Jerusalem, established by Mahmoud Yaish, who was the franchisor and responsible editor, while Ali Yaish was its general manager, and its editor-in-chief was Akram Haniyeh. After the removal of Haniyeh in 1986, it was edited by Ibrahim Melhem, its first issue was published in 1972, and it was permanently discontinued in 1996, and it took an anti-Israel approach. Its front page included that the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) confirms the participation of an independent Palestinian delegation in an international peace conference, at a time when the Committee for Expanding the Municipal Boundaries of Jerusalem headed by Haim Kovarski submitted a recommendation to annex new settlements to Jerusalem, while confrontations are taking place in Beit Sira resulting in the murder of Ibrahim Mohammad Aqel abu Safiya. Regarding university news, the “Intifada Shaheeds’ Bloc” won all the seats and clubs of the Bethlehem University Student Council, the bloc included the Student Youth Movement, the Student Action Front, the Student Unity Bloc and the Union Bloc.
