Issue 7 of al-Jadeed Magazine, July 1988

The seventh issue of the al-Jadeed magazine, a monthly magazine for progressive national thought and culture, was founded in 1951, issued in July 1988 under the supervision of its first editor Hanna Naqara and its editor-in-chief Ibrahim Malik. It was printed at the Union Cooperative Press in Haifa, and the cover contains a painting by the Palestinian artist Mousa Elayan. The issue included the following: 1. The talk of the month titled “In Defense of Houses, in Defense of Survival” by the magazine editorial board. 2. A study titled “The Strategic Relation Between the Two Apartheids in Israel and South Africa” by Ahmad Saad. 3. A study titled “The Revolutionary Russian Writer Alexander Herzen” by Nader al-Khatib. 4. An interview with the Egyptian theatrical critic, Ali az-Zaei, regarding the burdens of culture, theatre and criticism by Usama Orabi. 5. A series of testimonies on the Algerian novel (second and last episode) by Haitham Nowwara. 6. A poem titled “Ela Akhi Abr al-Khat al-Akhdar” (To My Brother Through the Green Line) by Hanna Ibrahim. 7. A poem titled “Mustafa al-Abed” by Farouq Mousa. 8. A poem titled “Lematha Bemawteka Konta Sakheyyan” (Why Were You So Generous in Death) by al-Motawwakel Taha. 9. A poem titled “Bayna al-Asabee Jadwal” (A Stream Between Fingers) by Fathi al-Qasem. 10. A poem titled “Helena Haifa” (Helena of Haifa) by Faisal Qarqati. 11. A poem titled “I Forgot One Thing” by the Soviet poet Fazu Aliyeva. 12. A short story titled “Objection” by Mohammad Naffa. 13. Two scenes from the play “The Ninth Wave” by Riad Masarwa. 14. A story titled “Our People Like Flowers” by Suheik Kiwan. 15. A thought titled “The Swallows Nest” by Zuheir Daeem. 16. Varied cultural news.
