Issue 1 of al-Jadeed Magazine, January 1969

The first issue of the al-Jadeed magazine, a monthly magazine for progressive national thought and culture established in 1951, was issued in January 1969 under the supervision of its first editor Hanna Naqqara and printed in the Union Cooperative Press in Haifa. The issue included the following: 1. The talk of the month, devoted to talking about the sixteenth Congress of the Israeli Communist Party. 2. Manifesto of the French Communist Party. 3. The poem "Fi at-Tariq Ela al-Madina al-Monawwara” (On the way to Medina) by Samih al-Qasim. 4. A story titled "Soon the Sun Will Rise" by Mohammad Nafaa. 5. Poems from Angola by the poet Agustinoneto. 6. "Men al-Mofakkerah al-Yawmeyah” (From the Diary), poetry by Khalil Touma. 7. Notes on the subject of philosophy presented by Ali Ashour. 8. Shadow Play (The First Theater Known to Arabs) by Nabiya al-Qasim. 9. An article titled "Arthur Miller and the Witch Hunt" by Abdel-Moneim al-Hanafi. 10. A story titled "The Bleeding Stopped" by Afif Salem. 11. A story titled "Under the Shadows" by Naguib Mahfouz. 12. An article titled "My Country, a Distorted Vision of a People and a Revolution" by Farouk Abdel-Qader. 13. A poem titled "Jothou as-Sendian” (The Oak Trunks) by Yousef Hamdan. 14. An article titled "Between al-Maarri in the Epistle of Forgiveness and Dante in (The Divine Comedy)" by Riad Zureik. 15. Poems by the poet Aryeh Dakar.
