A Handbook of the Arab Society for People with Disabilities, Jerusalem, 15 October 1989

Printed in Arabic and English, this archival item documents the handbook of the Arab Society for People with Disabilities, founded in 1981 in Jerusalem as an initiative by a group of disabled young men who believed in the ability of any disabled Palestinian individual to give back for the community and people, the society received its registration certification from the Ministry of Social Development in Jordan in 1982 to serve those who are kinesthetically disabled among the occupied territories and became a member of the Union of Charitable Societies in the West Bank.  The very first pages of this handbook were committed for the inaugural speech of the society’s president, Hajj Hasan Fatin Tahboub who confirmed that it was founded to take care of a worthy category of this nation’s sons and daughters and holds their hands, since it is considered to be a pioneering experience in the field of public service; proving that with consistent work any disabled individual can be part of their community, the manual also features names of the society’s members such as Nuzha Nusseibeh who is the Vice President, Mustafa Tawfique Abu Zahra as the Secretary, Hajj Kamal Abed el-Qader Mahmmoud as the Treasurer in addition to the membership of others, furthermore, it lists the goals of society including the physical, cultural and vocational rehabilitation of its comers and providing an accesses to work and this can be clearly seen through the colour photographs showing the products made by the society and its cultural and social activities conducted by its members to spend the time with one another and encloses a brief of the society’s facilities such as the Rehabilitation and Arrahma Departments while the few last pages document the same content only in English.
