The Diaries of Fandi Mhanna, Buqei'a- Upper Galilee, 1956-1957

This 195-page document shows the diaries of Fandi Mhanna from Buqei'a- Upper Galilee, which he started writing at the start of 1956 until the end of 1957 inside an agenda, where he wrote about social and political aspects of life, in addition to describing the weather, his health status and the Hijri calendar.  One political event that Mhanna discussed in his diaries is the Israeli Occupation attack on Egypt, Gaza, Khan Yunis and Rafah. Mhanna pointed out his relationship with his family, especially preparing the trousseau for his daughter, who is getting married. He mentioned the time he spent in Buqei'a, contributing to resolving tribal disputes with the dignitaries of Buqei'a inside and outside of the village and conducting regular meetings to discuss some social issues. Furthermore, he mentioned the local council elections and the coming of the Deputy Minister of the Interior and the Kaymakam to Buqei'a to reach an agreement with the people of the village to form the council. Moreover, Mhanna mentioned engaging in many social events and mutual visits with numerous sects, in addition to visiting the tomb of Prophet Sablan, where people flock to perform prayers with Sheikhs from neighbouring villages. He also mentioned visiting al-Khadr Tomb in Kafr Yasif.  Mhanna talked about his connection to the land, as he constantly weeded it out, planted it and took care of it. He also kept a record of financial accounts, including debts that he owed, the product of the olive crop, some miscellaneous purchases for his grocery store, and accounts between him and his partners at the oil press. He also pointed out his role in the department of supplies, where he was responsible for receiving aid and distributing it to the beneficiaries.
