Abdel-Rahman al-Haj Ibrahim Diaries, Tulkarm, 1937

Handwritten between 4 February and 31 December 1937, this document shows the diaries of Abdel-Rahman al-Haj Ibrahim, where he left some empty, and in others detailed his family and social life as the mayor of Tulkarm. According to their subject, the diaries were divided into three sections, where al-Haj Ibrahim recorded the most important activities. For one, he wrote about his ownership of the Faza orchard on the seashore near the city of Tulkarm and the village of Umm Khaled, where he also recorded accounts and expenses related to the wages of workers and artisans who work in planting and installing trees and taking care of them in the orchard. He also wrote down what he received from the grove of watermelons, melons, and citrus fruits, in addition to notes about the family’s trip to the orchard. He mentioned that he visited a number of Palestinian cities such as Lod, Jerusalem, Haifa, Nablus, and Akka. At the top of some pages, he wrote a description of his health and about his trip to the Levant and Lebanon and his meeting with his son Salim. Haj Ibrahim was keen to write down the days when he went to do business in the municipality of Tulkarem, his attendance at the municipal council meetings and some committees, and other matters related to the municipal budget for the year 1938.
