Abdel-Rahman al-Haj Ibrahim Diaries, Tulkarm, 1940

Handwritten between 1 January and 31 December 1940, this document shows the diaries of Abdel-Rahman al-Haj Ibrahim, where he left some empty, and in others detailed his family and social life as the mayor of Tulkarm. According to their subject, the diaries were divided into two sections, where al-Haj Ibrahim recorded the most important activities. For one, he wrote about his ownership of the Faza orchard on the seashore near the city of Tulkarm and the village of Umm Khaled, where he also recorded accounts and expenses related to wages of workers and artisans working in planting trees, taking care of them and planting them in the orchard, especially supervising the vineyard and fig trees. Al-Haj Ibrahim made notes about the repeated attacks by the settlers of the Netanya settlement near the village of Umm Khaled, and the British soldiers on his orchard. Among the most important things mentioned in this diary, especially at its beginning, were his presence in Lebanon and the work he did there, then his return to Tulkarm, and the death of his brother Abderrahim al-Hajj Ibrahim (Abu Darwish), his keenness to perform prayers at the mosque, and his sitting almost daily at his son Samir's shop, as well as recording his financial transactions in detail, all the necessities of his house, including supplies, furniture, clothes, and paying the subscription fees for the water and electricity services, as well as the fees and expenses of his children’s education. Then he mentioned his visit to some Palestinian cities such as Lod, Jerusalem, Yafa, Nablus, Taybe, and Dayr al-Ghusun.
