Silkscreen frame of Shaheed Lou'ay Almuqayyad displayed at the '100 Shaheeds - 100 Lives' Exhibition, Feb 2001
This photograph shows a silkscreen frame that belonging to Shaheed Lou'ay Almuqayyad. he born in Saudi Arabia and raised in Jabalia Camp, Lou'ay's family was forcibly displaced from the village of Bil'in in Gaza. He witnessed the murder of his friend Zuhair Daribah, who was injured during the confrontation at the Shaheeds Crossroad (Netzarim). Lou'ay stayed by his friend's side at the hospital until his death, deeply saddened by the loss. Devastated, he returned to the confrontation, where he was injured and murdered On October 7, 2000. This item was displayed at the "100 Shaheeds - 100 Lives" exhibition held at the Khalil Sakakini Cultural Center in Ramallah On February 20, 2001.which is taken by photographer Isabel de la Cruz, the idea of the exhibition emerged weeks after the eruption of the Second Intifada (Al-Aqsa Intifada) as a tribute to all those murdered in the struggle. However, as the number of Shaheeds was exponentially increasing, the exhibition was limited to honoring the first 100 Shaheeds representing all areas of Historic Palestine.
