"Al-Damun and Tripoli", Stories From the Sea to the River Project, 2022
This video documents an interview conducted by Tarek al-Bakri and Bayan Sukkar with Hussein al-Lubani, originally from the village of al-Damun, which was forcibly depopulated, and currently residing in the Nahr al-Bared Palestinian refugee camp in Tripoli. During a video call, al-Bakri connected with Sukkar and al-Lubani, taking them on a virtual tour in the cemetery of the depopulated village to search for the grave of his cousin Dahish, who was killed by a landmine explosion. Throughout the call, al-Lubani told the story of "Arnous," Dahish’s dog, whom he took in and cared for when they migrated from al-Damun. The dog ultimately sacrificed its life while defending al-Lubani, only to be killed by Zionist forces. Mohammad al-Murshid also joined al-Bakri in the video, speaking with his fellow villager al-Lubani as they reminisced about the families of the village and its most significant stories. The video was produced by Shagaf for Digital Expression in collaboration with the "We Were and Still Are... Here" initiative and the Campji platform in 2022, as part of the "Stories From the Sea to the River" project, funded by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development and supervised by Taawon (Welfare Association).
