"Hittin and Ain al-Hilweh", Stories from the Sea to the River Project, 2022

This video documents an interview conducted by Tarek al-Bakri and Bayan Sukkar with Rasmiya Shbayta, originally from the forcibly depopulated village of Hittin, currently residing in the Ain al-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp in Sidon. During a video call, al-Bakri connected with Sukkar and Shbayta, taking them on a virtual tour of the depopulated village. Throughout the call, Rasmiya shared her memories of the village, particularly her grandfather's house, who was the village mayor, and her family’s orchards, describing the fruits she used to pick. She recounted various landmarks of the village, such as the mosque, the school, and the river that flowed through it, as well as the neighborhoods and the families that lived there. Rasmiya also mentioned her visit to the city of Tiberias, and by the end of the call, she requested a handful of soil from her village. The video was produced by Shagaf for Digital Expression in collaboration with the "We Were and Still Are... Here" initiative and the Campji platform in 2022, as part of the "Stories from the Sea to the River" project, funded by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development and supervised by Taawon (Welfare Association).
