Bassam Shakaa in Paris, 1980
Taken in 1980, this photograph shows a part of the visit of Bassam Shakaa, mayor of Nablus, to France at the invitation of the French President Valery d'Estaing, in the wake of the Israeli Occupation Authorities' attempt to assassinate Shakaa in the same year. Shakaa, third from the left, appears at a luncheon hosted by the Franco-Arab Friendship Association in the attendance of Peter Lan, the association chairman, and Ibrahim as-Sous, representative of the Palestine Liberation Organisation in Paris.
