Lamis abu Nahleh is a professor and researcher of linguistics, gender and development at Birzeit University. She has conducted studies in Arabic and English. She is also a consultant in analyzing, planning, and evaluating development policies, programs, and projects from a gender perspective, as well as in training to integrate the gender perspective into planning, developmental policies, and scientific research. She has developed studies on weddings, marriage arrangements as well as the situation of caring for elderly women in the Palestinian family jointly with Benny Johnson.

The Lamis abu Nahleh Collection contains several photographs of her and members of her family, including photographs of children of the family, as well as of wedding parties and social events. The collection also documents a sit-in at Birzeit University in 1969.
