BIOGRAPHY

Emile Ashrawi is a Palestinian photographer, musician, and theater artist. He was born in Jerusalem in 1951 to a Palestinian family originally from the city of Nazareth. In 1975, he married Palestinian politician Hanan Ashrawi. Alongside several friends and his brothers, he helped establish the Bilalin theater troupe and the Baraem musical group. He also worked at Birzeit University as a photographer and music instructor.

DESCRIPTION

The Emile Ashrawi Collection constitutes a family archive that includes various stations of the family life of Sam'aan and Salwa Ashrawi (Emile Ashrawi's parents). It covers Emile's activities like family photographs and photographs of the Blooms Musical Troupe he started before it was renamed "al-Bara'em" in the early 1970s. It includes draft photographs of some of the villages surrounding Ramallah in the late 1970s, a set of paper documents such as the leasing papers of the Ashrawi family house in Jerusalem in addition to other documents related to the foundation of "al-Bara'em" Musical Troupe. It also includes tickets for the Troupe's concerts , the drafts of some of the Troup's songs, as well as the text of the play "Maw'ed Ma' ash-Shams al-Ghena'eyyeh" (A Date with the Singing Sun).
