A Photograph of the Theatrical Performance "Rihlat abu al-Khaizaran", the Popular Theatre Troupe, 2016

Taken in 2016, this colour photograph shows a freeze of the theatrical performance of "Rihlat abu al-Khaizaran [The Journeys of abu al-Khaizaran]" by the Popular Theatre Troupe. Based on both the testimonies of immigrants in the Mediterranean and Fernando Arrabal's book "The Guernica Tree", the play deals with the stories of the immigrants of al-Yarmouk Refugee Camp through the story of a Palestinian family from the Camp and tries to migrate to Europe with Syrian refugees. Directed by Fathy Abder-Rahman, the Abu al-Khaizaran character refers to a character in Ghassan Kanafaniʾs novel “Men in the Sun” with the same name. The play features Muhammad Fadel, Muhammad Masharqa, Ubayda Ṣalah, Uday al-Juʿbeh, Munḏira Bannura, Lara Naṣṣar, Hussein Nakhleh, and Rim al-Lu as actors.
