A Letter to the Nusseibeh Family and Their Answer, 14 June 1960
This archival item consists of a letter addressed to the Nusseibeh family in Jerusalem, the family responsible for and entrusted with the keys to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, from the American newspaper "Believe It or Not", in which the newspaper asked the family for a picture of the current superintendent of the church and the keys, in addition to the relevant information. The family’s answer was a letter from several pages in Arabic, written in the handwriting of Taher Nusseibeh, the current superintendent of the church, which begins with a short story about the church and its keys, then lists the history of the church, the family’s relationship with this mission from the time of the first Islamic conquest in the era of Omar Ibn al-Khattab, through the second Islamic conquest of Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi, all the way to the Ottoman era and the sharing of this mission by another family with the Nusaiba family, which is the Judeh family.
