Abdel-Latif al-Qaddoumi's Biography, 1912-1975

Handwritten, this document shows Abdel-Latif al-Qaddoumi's biography, found in the Abdel-Latif al-Qaddoumi Collection, which he began writing down on 1 September 1970 documenting the events of his life from his birth in 1912 in the village of Jinsafut to the city of Qalqilya. The biography shows that in 1930 he started working at the Department of Land and Survey in Yafa on the Maps Site. In the same year, he joined the Palestinian revolution against British Colonialism and was arrested in Lebanon by the French army. Subsequently, he escaped from French prisons in Syria to Iraq and then joined the Iraqi Military Academy. In 1941, he returned to fight against the English troops as a First Lieutenant Officer led by Fawzi al-Qawoqji. He then returned to the country and got married to his cousin, Lamia al-Qaddoumi, in 1945. Al-Qaddoumi also documented the details of the Nakba that he and his family had witnessed highlighting the fall of the Palestinian cities and villages. In 1950 he nominated himself to the first Jordanian parliament and was subsequently appointed at the Arab real estate company in Jerusalem as a surveyor and agricultural expert, after which he moved to live in Jerusalem. In 1957 he began building his home in the town of Shufat/Jerusalem, and then served as the director of the Arab Land Bank until 1973. Al-Qaddoumi died in 1975, and his son Walid wrote the last page of this biography.
